Hercules Remembered

Postby DorneyDante » Thu Sep 04, 2003 8:08 pm

I'm sorry if this makes some of you mad but I thought I would post an interesting link for all the Hercules fans out there. In lieu of the recent announcement, I am posting a link that details the construction process of this Summers/Dinn megawoodie. See how it was built, now see how it gets taken down.

Here are some other great photos and memorablia from Hercules. First, here is the origianl logo from the ride when it opened in May of 1989. Go to the 2nd to last pic on this page.

Here is a great aerial shot showing the massiveness of the ride. Go to the pic all the way at the bottom of the page.

Finally, here is an original pic taken shortly after the ride opened. The ride was a beautiful structure to look at. Notice the height of the 2nd hill in the background. That hill was greatly shortened years later after the trim was added to the 1st drop.

Its sorta sad how Cedar Fair totally destroyed this ride. If you cought a rare ride w/out the trim the ride would be awsome but CF added the trim shortened the second hill removed the PTC padding and added headrests. IMHO thats ruining a good ride.

My acceptance of Hercules demise goes like this..... If Dorney/CF didn't wanna run Hercules the way it was built to be run, I am fine now with them tearing it down. The day would have probably never came where they would have removed those trim breaks from the 1st drop. If they wouldn't let the ride run all out like it was meant to be, I then am fine with its demise. I find it ironic that the popularity (or lack there of) of the ride was due to how they ran the ride. You know how many more people would have liked the ride if they ran it sans trim breaks? They wouldn't be tearing it down today if so. I will forever remember its non-stop powerful ride that it delivered in the early nineties.

Actually, I have heard similar stories. Last Tuesday, September 9th, I was told from a girl who I have been exchanging emails with (a laser op), that all the employees had exclusive ride photo time for hercules from 4-5. She sent me a really good pic of a panormic view of the ride from the back from across the lake. Its really good because the 1st drop is reflected in the lake, so it kinda looks like a mirrored image. I have seen many pics of Hercules from the back and never saw one where the 1st drop actually reflected in the lake. It's a great photo. I don't doubt Randy's story, I just wonder why they didn't announce this formally. However, you are still not proving your statement randy dorney. Where is the official announcement of this. Also, Hercules opened in '89 not '87.
