Intimidator 305 New for KD in 2010

Postby DorneyMan88 » Thu Aug 20, 2009 12:51 pm

Ah, it's good to finally post again here after how long of being on a hiatus and just reading the forums.

So, the big announcement was today for King's Dominion. Here is the link for the ride: http://www.intimidator305.com/ What does everyone think?

I for one am impressed with the ride overall...very solid layout (not to mention that first drop is going to be insane at 85 degrees!)

Couldn't be happier that the ride apparently won't have OTSRs (according to some posts on the forums at Cbuzz) but instead over the shoulder lapbars...got to experience first-hand the awesomeness of over the shoulder lapbars when I rode Blue Fire in May. I don't like Intamin's OTSRs on most of their rides (Storm Runner, Maverick, Fahrenheit) as my shoulders get thrust up into the restraints from the airtime (though I have very broad shoulders) and my neck tends to hurt from those sharp turns.

The ride should do wonders for the park and I am already looking forward to finally getting to KD for the firs time and riding this.

Now for some observations (not sure why I realizes these things...maybe because I"m an engineer?...maybe because I'm bored?..maybe because I like to complain about Intamin?). This ride is supposed to have two 32 person trains and have a theoretical hourly capacity of 1,350pph. And yet according to RCDB, Millennium Force (which has three 36 person trains) has a theoretical capacity of 1,300pph. Now I know it seems that these theoretical capacities can never be fully trusted, but I mean come on that just seems way out of whack.

Also, how is it that this ride is shorter than MF and definitely has less steel than it (lift hill structure is cool/unique/kinda scary...I say scary because let's not forget Intamin is the company that after 2 or 3 years of the impulses being built they decided O Hey! we just realized there aren't enough supports on those towers) and the advantage of one less train (trains are darn expensive ya know) and yet it still costs 25 million dollars? Has the price of steel really gone up that much since 1999/2000?

Anyway, enough of my rambling...looks great, can't wait to ride it!

Good to be posting again, hopefully I finally put up my photo trip reports from the parks I visited in Germany and The Netherlands before I head back to school!

To get 1350 riders an hour you need 43 dispatches an hour with full trains. That seems very unlikely. I am going to estimate it will really get 840 an hour with 28 riders a train (figuring on average 4 seats will go out empty) with an average of 30 dispatches an hour.

The only thing I don't like about the layout is the lack of major hills. Nitro and Steel Force multiple hills that aren't small which doesn't seem to be the case with this ride.

This coming from a guy who mortgaged a B&M for an Intamin during a game of Cedar Point-opoly... Who was the first loser of that game?

Pwned!

The ride looks cool, I'm sure it'll be fun. Hopefully the description of the overhead lap bars is correct and the rendering of the train is wrong, as some have been stating. I just hope the ride doesn't suffer from an Intamin design flaw as so many do.

I'm a bit dissapointed in this ride....just hope it really doesn't have OTSR's since they're quite painful and obstruct the view.

I knew Cedar Fair would never want to outdo Millenium Force but I thought it would at least come in close in size...but only 5100' of track? That's shorter than most Hypers let alone a Giga.

Being 6 hours away I'd say I'd rather drive 8 hours to CP for MF. But, this will definatly help KD with the core markets down there.

Especialy with BGE losing one of it's major coasters next year (BBW RIP)...Intimidator will be a huge draw in VA.

I'm definitely disappointed. I noticed that, too, Kozmo -- only 5100'? Millennium feels so short, and it's so much longer. The site says this will be 3 minutes. Hah! Right. I mean, it's cool that they're fitting such a big ride into a small area, but that's the problem -- giga coasters weren't meant to be compact.
I think what I'm most disappointed about is the layout. It could be an airtime machine and it's just going to be positive G's. High speed turns. With so little air time, I fail to see the point of OTSRs. I really, really hope it doesn't have OTSRs. I'm not a fan.
I feel like there's so much more they could have done with this. At least the GP'll be excited. I am excited to check out the new Intamin track, though.

I think they mean 3 minutes from the time you leave the station until the time you get back to the station after the ride. I think the sign in Steel Force's line also says 3 minutes.

Looking at the ride again today, I've decided that this has to be one of the lamest layouts I've ever seen. Who knows, maybe it will ride awesome, but I'm pretty disappointed with how little the layout does.

Those turns look like they will be very intense. I'm all about the positive G's! I can't wait to ride it.
