Keep Track of the Dorney Rides You've Ridden

Postby nthdesign2008 » Fri May 02, 2008 10:43 pm

I've created a website, http://www.thrillscore.com, that allows users to keep track of the rides they've ridden. I live in Bucks county, and naturally added the Dorney Park & Wildwater Kingdom rides first. This is a free site, meant for amusement park enthusiasts, families, or anyone else.

I hope you have a chance to check out ThrillScore.

Thanks.

Intresting, I wish I had the time to go through and to the whole list lol.

Good idea though, but I think you should also add defunct rides to the lists, or at least the more recent or more popular ones...ie for Dorney, Hercules, Journey, Iceberg, SkyRide, Water Scooters, Joker, Skyscraper, Flying Dutchman, Paratrooper, Bucket O Blood etc.

Correction, just realized you could add rides yourself...brilliant!

I think it was one of the best sites on the web! How did you make it?

Thank you for the kind comments. As for how the site was created, here's a brief history.

I have always loved amusement parks and, specifically, roller coasters. I've always informally kept track of which roller coasters I've ridden, and so have my friends. I looked around the web for a tool to allow me to keep track of rides online, and I just wasn't happy with the results. There are a couple of sites, to be sure, that allow users to track roller coasters and rides, but I wanted something more.

ThrillScore.com was created to make the "accumulation" of rides the focal point. Make it fun, give users a reason to keep adding rides to their list, and make it community-driven. We "scored" each ride to give users a better idea of how "extreme" their ridership is. In the coming months, we'll do a LOT more with that data, giving users graphs and analysis of what, when, and how often they ride.

Many people have asked why we've included "attractions" in addition to rides. It's simple. There are many amusement park visitors who either don't want to ride rides, or can't. But, those people still love amusement parks. So, why alienate them?

ThrillScore.com was written in PHP with a MySQL database as the backend. The site took a few months of evening and weekend work to build and put online. After the site went "live," we started adding rides... and we've never stopped. There are hundreds of parks in the United States alone, and thousands of rides and attractions. We keep making the site better (mostly faster), and we're close to rolling out many new exciting features. Hopefully, ThrillScore.com can become a portal for those who love amusement parks and rides.

Thank you to our friends around Dorney Park. You're a great group, and we hope to see you at the park! (Look for the blue ThrillScore.com shirts.)

I've been on all seven coasters, all three water rides, and most thrill rides. I didn't go to the water park when I went last summer, but I will be going to the water park next summer.
